Post 7: Integrating Sources
I live for paraphrasing. In fact, I struggle to find something in an article that I actually want to quote. This chapter, which discusses integrating sources into writing, definitely helps me out on the quotation front. When writing papers, I always try to stick to paraphrasing, to be able to incorporate my own thoughts - and also get a passing score on TurnItIn, ya know. The book gives a foolproof how-to when it comes to situations like my own. It lists when to paraphrase and when to quote an article. For example, if the author is expressing a specific tone or says something that would lose its dramatic effect if simply summarized, you quote them. However, when you want your voice to prominent or your work is directed to a different audience than the author's, you can paraphrase.
This chapter is VERY relevant to this second project and I intend to look back on it when drafting my paper. Considering how many different sources we have to use and how many research strategies we have to implement, the paper can get jumbled up with quotes and summaries. I think the BBG gives a bit of a pathway for lost students like myself. I know there's certain times I should quote the source, like when referencing the interview or when introducing an expert's opinion. With how many words this paper needs to be - help - I plan to include as many quotes as I find relevant and useful!
